Basketball Stars to Represent Vic Country
NONE

Eve Braslis and Agnes Emma-Nnopu will represent Victoria Country Basketball Under-18 Women’s team at the 2017 Australian Junior Championships, to be held in Townsville on 8-15 April.

Eve (Year 12) and Agnes (Year 10) were selected with their teammates over a week-long tournament, the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup in Albury in January. Both girls played for the Vic Country Goldminers and won the Grand Final against the other Vic Country team, the Bush Rangers, with Eve averaging 15.62 points per game and Agnes averaging 8.88 points for the tournament.

This is both girls' third time representing Vic Country in the national tournament. Competition will be tough, with the best Australian and New Zealand state teams (country and metro) represented. It is an honour and a great opportunity for the girls to be included in this event.

To add to their positive start to the basketball season, their representative team Bellarine Storm won Basketball Vic Country’s Division 1 Championship on 18-19 February in Shepparton, going through the weekend undefeated. Eve averaged 11 ppg and Agnes 9 ppg. It was a back-to-back championship win for the U18 Bellarine Storm team, having also won in 2016.

It was a poignant weekend for Eve as it was her last Country Championship tournament, as well as a return to Shepparton where it all began for her in 2011 when her Geelong U12 team also won.

Congratulations to both girls and good luck to their Vic Country team at the national tournament in April.
