Strong Run of Form at State Championships

Several College athletes have qualified for the National Track and Field Championships after success at the State Championships.

The Victorian Track and Field Championships were held over two weekends at the end of February at Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne.

The Geelong College had strong representation at this competition, with the following students achieving excellent results in their respective finals:

Ruby Pekin-Schlicht (Year 11)

  • 2nd in U18 400m Hurdles - 70.38 secs*
  • 3rd in U20 High Jump – 1.60m*

Eliza Walsh (Year 10)

  • 3rd in U17 100m Hurdles – 15.31 secs*
  • 3rd in U17 400m Hurdles – 66.32 secs*
  • 7th in U17 400m – 61.68 secs

Sophia Powers (Year 9)

  • 6th in U16 100m – 13.21 secs

Cassidy Bradshaw (Year 8)

  • 1st in U15 Pole Vault – 2.80m*
  • 5th in U15 800m – 2:22.54 secs*
  • 9th in U15 Long Jump – 4.63m

Skye Ellis (Year 8)

  • 6th in U15 1500 – 4:50.52 secs*

Will Jarman (Year 8)

  • 4th in U15 Pole Vault 2.70m*
  • 5th in U15 Javelin – 25.16m
  • 5th in U15 High Jump – 1.60m

Nick O'Brien (Year 8)

  • 1st in U15 800m – 2:01.35 secs* (see the race video below)
  • 2nd in U15 400m – 53.53 secs*

Hamish Poulter (Year 8)

  • 6th in U15 400m – 56.79 secs
    (Hamish qualified earlier to compete at the National Championships in U15 Long Jump and 100m Hurdles)

*Indicates that the athlete has qualified to compete in this event at the Australian National Championships in Sydney in April.
