Inspiration from a Refugee's Journey
NONE

Abdi Aden, a Somalian refugee spoke to our Year 12 students as part of the TripleR program about his harrowing solo journey as a 15-year-old to Australia.

When the war started in Somalia, his family was killed and he walked for three months with 300 people to Kenya. Only five made it to the border.

His bravery, a great deal of luck and determination saw him survive refugee camps in Kenya and Romania before arriving in Melbourne. He suffered loneliness, culture shock (not speaking English) and discrimination in those early years.

He is now a university-educated Australian citizen and social worker, helping other refugees settle into our country. His story is inspirational with important lessons about resilience, determination and wanting to make a difference by helping others.
