National Snowsports Bronze for Andy and Emerson

The Australian Interschool Snowsports Championships were held at Mt Buller from 6-10 September. The Geelong College was represented by nine skiers and snowboarders, with competitors in six individual events and six team events. The competition was strong but the College team performed well, finishing 17th of 34 in the Co-ed Primary Schools Division and 14th of 25 in the Co-ed Secondary Schools Division.

Year 8 students Andy Deans and Emerson Facer won a bronze medal in the Division 3 boys Snowboard X teams event, bringing home the College’s first nationals medal in many years. Andy finished sixth in the Snowboard X individually and 4th in the Division 3 Snowboard GS, missing the bronze medal by 0.9 of a second – heartbreakingly close!

It was a delight to see so many College representatives acquitting themselves well against classy competition. Well done to Holly Kearns (Year 3), Charlotte Koch (Year 4), Maddie Koch (Year 4), Jasper Atkinson (Year 7), Andy Deans (Year 8), Emerson Facer (Year 8), Angelique Atkinson (Year 9), Olivia Howie (Year 9) and Tara Kearns (Year 9), and their families, for qualifying for nationals and being such a great team!
