Grace Scores Twin Wins in Life Saving Comp

Year 11 Geelong College student Grace Harris has been victorious while representing Victoria in the Wieland Shield surf life saving competition.

The Wieland Shield, which is in its 50th year, pits Victorian volunteer lifeguards against their (paid) counterparts from California every two years. Aside from being a competitive showcase of important lifesaving skills, the Shield is a chance for the participants to share their knowledge.

This year, the Californians have travelled to the Victorian Surf Coast for the competition from 10 to 13 January. On the opening day at Ocean Grove, Grace won both the Ironwoman and the board events. A fantastic effort!

Victoria's team consists of four women and six men. The competition resumes on Friday at Torquay and culminates in Fairhaven on Sunday.
