College Hosts Trans-Tasman Tournament

The Geelong College is hosting two schools from New Zealand and one school from Adelaide for a Trans-Tasman Cricket Quadrangular this week.

St Andrew's College (NZ) is looking to retain the title of quadrangular champions, having won last year's tournament at Scots College, NZ. St Andrew's, Scots, The Geelong College and Scotch College Adelaide will play three 50-over matches each in the first three days of the competition to determine the winner. They will be followed by two Twenty20 games each on Friday 19 January to decide the T20 champions.

The first day began with TGC vs St Andrew's on Main Oval and Scots vs Scotch on Mackie Oval. St Andrew's set TGC an imposing run chase of 227, thanks to 90 from Harrison Darling. In reply, TGC were in a good position until some tight bowling late in the innings, falling 22 runs short.

On Mackie Oval, an impressive bowling display from Scots College saw Scotch College bowled out for 143 in the 46th over. Scots's batsmen were steady in their run chase, reaching the required runs in 42 overs and five wickets to spare.

On Day 2, St Andrew's took on Scotch and TGC played Scots. Geelong College batted first but weren't able to build on the first day's performance, being dismissed in the 26th over for 101 runs. Scots passed the score with four wickets down and continued to bat to be finally dismissed for 203.

St Andrew’s batted first in the second day's other match and posted a competitive score of 9-222 from their 50 overs. Scotch started their run chase well, but lost wickets at regular intervals to be dismissed for 95.

Wednesday sees TGC play Scotch and Scots play St Andrew's. Stay tuned to the College website for more updates and photos as the tournament progresses.
