Students Star in Afternoon of Clarinet Excellence
NONE

Yesterday The Geelong College music department hosted an afternoon with David Griffiths, lecturer in clarinet at The University of Melbourne. More than 50 experienced clarinettists from seven schools attended the workshop where David explained fundamental techniques and how he practises his instrument.

The workshop on Thursday 26 April was followed by a masterclass for four of our senior clarinet students, Kevin Zhang, Jana Gleeson, Georgia White and Jonathan Hanson. Each student performed a piece that was further developed by David, covering concepts such as ensemble skills, communicating character and overcoming technical challenges.

David finished this inspiring afternoon with a performance of a Klezmer work of phenomenal dexterity and control.

Congratulations to all the students who attended and the hours of private practice that went into preparing for the performances.
