Maddison's Wildcats Crowned State Champs

Year 9 student Maddison Samsa has helped the Western Metro Wildcats hockey team take gold at the Haval Junior State Championships in Melbourne over the school holidays.

The Under-15 Wildcats, which is made up of players from Geelong, Footscray, Altona and Werribee, was among 10 zones in the state competition at the State Netball and Hockey Centre on 3-6 July.

After making it through to the U15 Grand Final, the Wildcats were excellent in defeating the Eastern Metro Hotshots 2-0 to claim first place. Maddison was one of the team's three captains during the successful campaign.

The Wildcats' other teams also starred in the tournament, with the U13 girls' team winning bronze. Ellie Samsa (Year 7) scored one of her team's two goals in the 2-1 bronze medal victory against South West Country Eagles.

Emily Brussow's (Year 11) U17 girls' team made it through to the gold medal game, but they were unable to register a goal in the final and lost 0-2 to the North West Metro Tigers, earning a silver medal for their efforts.
