Houses Rally Behind Research4Riney

Calvert and Shannon Houses have dedicated their recent fundraising efforts to Research4Riney, inspired by Old Collegian Catherine Ross (OGC 2004).

Catherine, known to many as "Riney", was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer in late 2014, at the age of 28. Since then, she has left her primary teaching job, endured multiple surgeries, procedures and rounds of chemotherapy and undertaken drug trials. Her cancer has increasingly progressed and she has been told there is no cure for her cancer, but she has remained resilient and positive throughout.

Faced with all this, Catherine decided to raise money and awareness for bowel cancer research and started Research4Riney. The funds raised are split between Bowel Cancer Australia, the Jodi Lee Foundation and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation. Research4Riney has raised more than $200,000 so far.

In support of their fellow Collegian, the Calvert House students, spearheaded by Annabelle Fisher (Year 11), raised more than $1000 for Research4Riney. About $430 came from Derby Day sales of Emma & Tom's juices and $600 was from a raffle for a pair of Apple AirPods.

Shannon House also rallied behind Catherine, who was a member of Shannon, by donating $1200 from their Valentine's Day carnation sales to her fundraiser.
