Top ten team at Snowsports Nationals
NONE

Geelong College was represented by eight skiers and snowboarders at the Australian Interschool Snowsports Championships which were held at Perisher from 5-9 September. The competition was strong and the weather temperamental, but the College team performed well, finishing ninth with a score of 36 points in the Co-ed Secondary Schools Division and was the third-placed Victorian school (taking scalps such as Geelong Grammar and Wesley). This was our best result since 2013 when we finished seventh with a score of 27, so arguably our best result ever.

After dominating the Snowboard events at the Victorian titles, Year 9 student Andy Deans won a bronze medal in the Boarder X, with the team of Andy, Emerson Facer and Hunter Locke finishing fifth. These boys also did well in the Snowboard, placing fourth.

Andy also competed in the Slopestyle board, coming in 19th. Andy and Emerson then swapped to skis and performed very well, placing fifth in the Ski X teams – the highest placed Victorian team, and 17th and 21st respectively in the Slopestyle Ski.

Year 8 student Jasper Atkinson continued his excellent season with top 10 finishes in both Moguls and Slopestyle Ski. In the Moguls Jasper placed seventh in a very competitive group, and joined Rory Kearns (Year 8) and Tyson Martin (Year 8) to finish eighth in the teams event. In the Slopestyle Ski Jasper placed ninth.

Year 4 student Holly Kearns, our sole primary school representative, did very well, placing 19th in the Moguls - she was the second-placed Victorian in this event. Holly also competed in the Alpine, placing 27th.

Year 11 student Pia Falk had an unlucky DQ in the first round of the Skier X but bounced back in the second round.

It was a delight to see so many College representatives acquitting themselves well against classy competition on the national stage. A huge thank you to the parents who travelled to Perisher, put up with the rain, hail and shine, and acted as course volunteers, team managers, cheer leaders and psychologists. I hope one day your children will take you skiing or boarding!
