Athletes Produce their Best at APS Finals

On Saturday 20 October, 44 girls and 42 boys represented The Geelong College in the APS Athletics Finals at Lakeside Stadium, widely regarded as the best school-based athletics meeting in Australia.

In the morning, the College girls had to endure constant rain and cold conditions, but showed commendable resilience and team spirit to record 28 personal bests in their individual events. They finished fourth in the six-team girls' competition.

The highlights were: Cassidy Bradshaw (Year 9) won all four of her individual events (U16 200m, 400m, Long Jump and Triple Jump) and competed in two relays; Mimmi Balaam (Year 12), 1st in Open 800m and 2nd in Open 1500m; Ruby Pekin-Schlicht (Year 12), 1st in Open High Jump and 3rd in Open Triple Jump; and Skye Ellis (Year 9), 1st in U16 800m and 2nd in U16 1500m.

Oliver Courtnay (Year 11) won both the U17 Shot Put and Open Discus, setting new APS and School Records in both events. Oliver now holds the APS Shot Put Record in U14, U15, U16 and U17 – a remarkable achievement.
