Names Revealed at Boat Christening

The Boat Christening on Saturday 10 November was a great opportunity to pause and reflect on the wonderful contributions of three outstanding individuals of The Geelong College community.

The Geelong College Boat Club was able to recognise the support and contribution from David Caithness (OGC 1952) who was a member of the famous 1st VIII Crew to win three consecutive Head of the River titles in 1955, 1956 and 1957.

Deputy Principal Roger Smith, who has been a caring support to Directors of Rowing, coaches, students and parents for more than 20 years in his varied leadership positions at the College, was also recognised.

The school was also able to celebrate the life of Colin Carstairs Bell (OGC 1921), who was a member of the College’s 1st VIII on five occasions. Colin’s three sons were in attendance to help celebrate their father’s legacy and life as a College student.

It was terrific to see so many current families witness this occasion. We look forward to our first major regatta of the season this Saturday on the Yarra River, where crews will compete in the Melbourne Head Regatta.
