Students focus on the areas of counting, place value and strategies for addition and subtraction. They engage in tasks involving the number system to 10,000. They solve real‑life worded problems using a variety of written and mental strategies. They identify the most efficient strategy and can use mathematical language to prove their answer and can explain the process used.
Data Representation and Interpretation
Students collect data, organise it into categories and create displays using lists, tables, picture graphs and simple column graphs, with and without the use of digital technologies. They explore meaningful and increasingly efficient ways to record data, representing and reporting the results of investigations. They are able to justify why some graphs are more appropriate for representing specific types of data and can make comparisons between different displays.
